Nvidia DLSS 4.5 Brings Smarter Upscaling and Faster Frame Generation

Nvidia DLSS 4.5 is officially here, and it further improves one of the most important technologies for PC gaming. The new version of Deep Learning Super Sampling was revealed during CES and introduces major upgrades to image quality and frame generation.

DLSS is designed to boost in-game resolution using artificial intelligence, while keeping performance impact low. With version 4.5, Nvidia takes another step toward smoother gameplay and cleaner visuals on RTX graphics cards.

What Is DLSS and Why It Matters

DLSS, short for Deep Learning Super Sampling, uses AI models to upscale games to higher resolutions. Instead of rendering every pixel natively, the GPU reconstructs the image using trained neural networks.

For PC gamers, this means:

  • Higher resolutions without heavy performance loss
  • More stable framerates
  • Better image clarity in demanding games

DLSS has become a key feature for modern PC titles, especially when ray tracing is enabled.

Nvidia DLSS 4.5 Uses a New AI Model

One of the biggest upgrades in Nvidia DLSS 4.5 is the second-generation transformer-based AI model. This new model uses more computing power to improve how images are reconstructed.

In practice, this results in:

  • Sharper details
  • More accurate textures
  • Less ghosting and visual artifacts

Fast-moving scenes should look cleaner, especially in action-heavy games.

Improved Frame Generation With More Flexibility

Frame generation also receives a major upgrade in DLSS 4.5. Nvidia now introduces 6X Dynamic Multi Frame Generation.

Previously, each real frame could be followed by up to three AI-generated frames. With DLSS 4.5, that number increases to five AI frames per real frame. This effectively doubles the potential performance gain in supported games.

Another important change is dynamic control. Players can now select their desired framerate directly in the Nvidia app. DLSS then adjusts frame generation dynamically to reach that target, instead of relying on fixed presets.

Availability and Supported Hardware

DLSS 4.5 is available immediately for all RTX graphics cards through a beta update. Nvidia plans to roll out the full public release on January 13.

While DLSS is best known for PC gaming, Nvidia also confirmed that the technology is being used beyond PCs. Several Nintendo Switch 2 games rely on DLSS to improve performance and image quality on the new hardware.

Final Thoughts

Nvidia DLSS 4.5 continues to push AI-powered upscaling forward. With a smarter AI model and more advanced frame generation, the technology offers real benefits for PC gamers who want higher performance without sacrificing visuals.

As more games adopt DLSS 4.5, its impact on smooth gameplay and image quality will only become more noticeable.
