Battlefield RedSec has finally been confirmed by EA and Battlefield Studios — and the wait is almost over. The free-to-play battle royale officially launches tomorrow, October 28, at 16:00 CET, alongside the Season 1 update for Battlefield 6.
A Long-Rumored Mode Finally Revealed
After months of leaks and speculation, EA has confirmed that RedSec will be a full-scale standalone battle royale experience tied to the Battlefield 6 universe. The announcement also comes with the promise of a gameplay trailer dropping at launch time.
Matches will feature 100 players, divided into 25 squads of four. EA has confirmed both squad and duo modes at release, though a solo option will not be available — at least for now.
Map and Setting
Developed by Ripple Effect Studios, RedSec takes place on a massive new map built exclusively for this mode. While the name of the map hasn’t been revealed yet, teasers hint at a California-inspired setting, featuring suburban Los Angeles areas and stretches of desert terrain.
Expect a variety of points of interest, dynamic combat zones, and environmental diversity. One key twist sets RedSec apart: the infamous shrinking “ring” doesn’t just deal damage — touch it, and you die instantly. EA says this mechanic is meant to keep players constantly engaged in combat rather than hiding on the edges.

Classes and Progression
Players start each match by choosing one of four iconic Battlefield classes: Assault, Support, Engineer, or Recon. Squads can pick any combination of classes — even four Assaults if they choose — but switching mid-match isn’t possible.
Through the new Class Training system, XP earned from kills and objectives unlocks passive bonuses, like faster armor plate regeneration for Assaults. This adds a layer of long-term progression on top of the match-to-match chaos.
Loot, Objectives, and Vehicles
RedSec includes five weapon rarity tiers, plus a huge range of gadgets, attachments, and Strike Packages. Loot can be found in crates, armored trucks, and through mission objectives that reward squads with powerful gear.
Vehicles will also play a big role, though EA hasn’t confirmed whether aircraft — such as helicopters or jets — will be part of the initial lineup.

Platforms and Release
Battlefield RedSec goes live tomorrow, October 28 at 16:00 CET, for:
- PC (EA App / Steam / Epic Games Store)
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X | S
The game will be completely free-to-play, putting it head-to-head with Call of Duty: Warzone and Fortnite.
Final Thoughts
With RedSec, EA is taking another swing at the battle royale scene — but this time, it feels like they’ve learned from past attempts. Its class-based gameplay, instant-death ring, and tight squad focus could give it a real edge in a crowded genre.
What do you think — will Battlefield RedSec stand out among Warzone and Apex Legends?
