Rockstar North Explosion: Fire Hits GTA 6 Developer’s Studio

The Rockstar North explosion has caused a fire at the studio behind Grand Theft Auto 6. The incident took place early in the morning at Rockstar North’s main office in Edinburgh. Fortunately, there are currently no reports of injuries.

Local emergency services were called to the scene at around 05:02 local time, after reports of an explosion inside the building. Fire crews remained on location for several hours to secure the situation and assess potential damage.

Explosion linked to boiler malfunction

According to local outlet Edinburgh Live, the Rockstar North explosion was caused by an issue in a boiler room, which led to a fire inside the building. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they dispatched multiple fire engines and specialist vehicles to handle the incident.

At the time, authorities mentioned the need to secure possible structural damage, although the full extent was not immediately clear.

Rockstar confirms studio is safe and open

Rockstar Games later provided an update to IGN, confirming that the situation is under control. A company spokesperson explained that the incident was caused by a malfunctioning heating boiler and emphasized that everyone is safe.

Rockstar also confirmed that the studio has reopened and is fully operational, thanking emergency services for their quick response and the community for their concern.

No injuries reported, damage appears limited

Because the fire occurred outside office hours, no employees were present in the building, greatly reducing the risk of injuries. While incidents like this are always disruptive, Rockstar’s statement suggests that the damage to the studio was minimal.

Development on Grand Theft Auto 6 does not appear to be affected at this time.

Final Thoughts

The Rockstar North explosion is a serious incident, but the outcome could have been far worse. With no injuries reported and the studio already back in operation, it seems Rockstar avoided major disruption to GTA 6 development.
