Days Gone

A virus ravages life on America and Deacon St. John and his wife are split up during the early parts of the out break, For two years Deacon and his buddy Boozer are one the road being drifters, scavenging, taking bounties and doing jobs here and there to survive. Deacon holding out some hope that his wife Sarah is still out there alive somewhere and its what keeps him going to survive in a apocalyptic land of uncertain events.

I picked this game up on a sale on steam wanting to play it for a very long time as at the time my PlayStation 4 stopped working, Within the first hour and a half I had to learn the game mechanics from the range of crafting a melee weapon and using throwables such as pipe bombs and Molotov's also healing items for whenever the need, I found the crafting useful for every situation I was in. At the beginning your shown a flashback where Boozer, Deacon and Sarah are caught in the cross fire of the early parts of the outbreak of a virus making people into things called "Freakers" Sarah is injured and they find a chopper taking non-infected people to a safe area but they can only take one as there is no more space left so Sarah is chosen to take the spot and Boozer and Deacon are left behind to survive the horror that surrounds them. Immediately the story of the game pulls me in out of interest and asking questions such as , Will they survive? Will they see Sarah again? What will happen next? Making me want to play more and progress through the story. The motorcycle you use to traverse the land is mandatory need and it helps a lot to get to one location to another but that's not all for the vehicle, You can upgrade it to have a better performance such as a better fuel tank and a better armour to take much less damage and its durability lasts longer as you further unlock the parts as you progress for purchase for in game prices, I found the mechanic of the motor cycle great as it was easy to control and not to difficult to learn and I could easily pick it up and play and ride the bike with no issue with the button layout, the weapons from ranged to melee had a great selection with shotguns, assault rifles and hand guns with a wide Varity, with the option adding a suppresser attachment for stealth approaches to the enemy, I loved the the fact I had choice giving me more options on how to either attack or defend myself. the characters I came across had their own agendas where it be Adam Copeland and patriotic and nationalist ideals and Iron Mike and his "pacifist" choice while trying to run a camp. I find the npcs interesting with their own stories and reasons for taking certain types of action that would add value to the story but I wish not to reveal too much as it would ruin it for people eager to play the game themselves. The enemies in the game are interesting from what I have played, you have the rippers who have a belief of being free from suffering by praising the freakers, Marauders who like to ambush and attack unsuspecting people from out of no where also certain enemies with a story like Skizzo and Carlos, Skizzo seems to have Iron mikes camp best interest but he does things in the worst way possible causing bad strife within the community and Carlos as you progress has a secret you uncover while he tries to make Deacon's day worse, these characters interest me as they make drama when the story needs a twist at the right time making already tense situations even more intense. The freakers have a wide variety of types such as hoards which act as your everyday zombie mob but with more numbers I have seen in any other game I have seen in recent years which add value to the games design, the rager bear which is a zombified bear with more damage which I like the additional effort and runners as undead wolves which is scary while riding on the motorcycle and criers which signal nearby freakers to come and attack you that I find equally terrifying.

As I progressed through the story I felt more and more inclined to learn of Deacon and Boozer being in a motorcycle club called the Mongrels and him being apart of it before the outbreak after he left the military and how they still choose to wear the colours still as it was all they had during the their time with each other, I felt like a brotherhood and with boozer being at Deacons side it was like I was in the shoes of someone doing their best to keep his friend around, With the flashbacks of Deacon and Sarah I was learning what their relationship was like before life took a wrong turn for them all and how Deacon was in love with this woman who filled his life full of hope and love, I found that Sarah was a vital part of not just Deacon but to the whole story of the game and maybe stopping the virus once and for all. I really hope this game does get a sequel but I'm not sure it will as I've not seen anything or heard any news of it being continued but I will hold out some small hope.
