Pearl Abyss has just released a fresh 13-minute gameplay showcase of their upcoming open-world action RPG Crimson Desert. The reveal comes right before Gamescom, giving fans a taste of what’s waiting for them on the show floor next week.
The footage follows main character Kliff Greymane, who, alongside his allies, finds himself thrown into a chaotic battle. The group quickly gets separated, forcing Kliff to track down his companions. One of the key figures he’s searching for is Oongka, a trusted partner, who is caught up in the middle of an uprising in the Calphade region. Leading that rebellion? None other than Cassius Morten, a name that already hints at serious trouble.
Set in the same universe as Pearl Abyss’ hit MMO Black Desert Online, Crimson Desert aims for something different. Instead of the MMO format, players will dive into a sprawling open-world action-adventure, where cinematic storytelling blends with fast-paced combat. The studio has promised a rich narrative, intense battles, and plenty of freedom to explore its brutal but beautiful world.
While the gameplay reveal is exciting, there’s a catch: the game won’t be launching as soon as expected. Originally planned for late 2025, Crimson Desert has been pushed back to the first quarter of 2026. According to Pearl Abyss, the delay was necessary to polish the experience and finalize key elements such as voice acting, distribution partnerships, and console certification. The team made it clear that they’re committed to delivering a refined product, even if it means waiting a little longer.
A final release date hasn’t been locked in yet, and the studio confirmed that no new launch details will be announced during Gamescom. For now, all eyes are on the gameplay footage, which already paints Crimson Desert as one of 2026’s most anticipated titles for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
